- BISHOP MUSEUM publications have long been regarded by the scientific world as authoritative works dealing with the history of man and his environment in the Pacific basin. - When the late Heinrich Zeitlinger began to compile BIBLIOTHECA CHEMICO-MATHEMATICA in 1906, the collection of early scientific books and indeed the study of the history of science were not far beyond their infancy. Publication of this catalogue was a pioneer effort. It lists 54,441 items and practically every one of them is provided with bibliographical and historical notes. The original catalogue with its large supplement is arranged alphabetically by authors' names with a detailed subject index at the end. In all the subsequent supplements the books are arranged by subject. This catalogue is still vital today as an unequalled guide to the original sources.
