- AFRICA SOUTH, edited by the socialist politician Ronald Segal, dared to speak out against apartheid. In time, it was attacked in the national press and officially banned from bookstalls. Segal was forced to flee first to Botswana and later settled in London, where he published the last issues under the title: Africa South in Exile.

The members of the staff were Africans, under the editorship of H.A.B. Jones-Quartey. Dedicated to Wendell L. Wilkie and Felix Eboue, the issue includes an address by Eleanor Roosevelt. Among the other contributors are K.O. Mbadiwe, Jean la Roche, Canada Lee, Mary McLeod Bethune and Mbonu Ojike.

BULLETIN, edited by Eldred Jones, was the forerunner of African Literature Today, also edited by Jones. Its value lies in the fact that it contained news of cultural activities at English-speaking African universities with dates and names of the participants. These reports cannot be found elsewhere. The ASSOCIATION FOR AFRICAN LITERATURE IN ENGLISH, BULLETIN also contained reviews and critiques of African literature that make it a useful addition to any collection of African literary journals.
