APOLLON Eine Zeitschrift |
|
Vols. 1-2 (all publ.). Penig, 1803. Reprint. Bound set |
| Complete set $ 300.- Single volumes may be available. Please inquire.
|
- It was the aim of APOLLON to be for music what ATHENAEUM was for poetry and PROPYLAEEN was for the visual arts, and the journal did, in fact, contain a wealth of sheet music, music reviews, and essays. More interesting, however, are the contributions on the theory of art, reflecting the process by which early romantic ideas were assimilated. |

- The main objective of BEITRAEGE ZUR MUSIKWISSENSCHAFT is to bridge the gap between research and practice. This was achieved by examining musical performances in the light of the relationships between music and audience, and music and society. The music of all periods is discussed, from the Middle Ages to the present, encompassing virtually all countries. Contents include a series of essays on folk songs and patriotic songs, a report on five recently discovered letters of Richard Wagner, and a compendium of the musical works of Janacek. |

|
Vols. 1-7 (all publ.). Berlin, 1824-1830. Reprint. Bound set |
| Complete set € 980,- |
| Bound per volume € 160,-
|
- BERLINER ALLGEMEINE MUSIKALISCHE ZEITUNG was founded by the later well-known music theorist Adolf Bernhard Marx in collaboration with the Berlin music publisher Adolph Martin Schlesinger. The new journal enjoyed an unexpectedly high degree of popularity owing in large part to Marx's editorial style. In contrast to the Leipzig ALLGEMEINE MUSIKALISCHE ZEITUNG, the BAM focused on detailed analyses of works as opposed to reports on individual musical events. Marx's famous analytical articles on Beethoven's works have laid ground to nineteenth-century disputes on form and content in music. |

- MENSCHEN was a journal of literature and art characteristic of the late expressionist period in Dresden. Through the publication of poetry, policies, proclamations, reviews, political articles, and woodcuts, it offered a cross-section of the final phase of expressionism. Among the literary contributors were Johannes Baader, Henri Barbusse, Ernst Bloch, Albert Ehrenstein, Kurt Schwitters, among others. Some of the illustrations were by Otto Dix, Wassilij Kandinsky, and Oskar Kokoschka. Among other composers, Alban Berg and Otto Klemperer submitted musical compositions. - Years 1951-1965 published as JAHRBUCH FUER AESTHETIK UND ALLGEMEINE KUNSTWISSENSCHAFT vols. 1-10. - General index for N.S. vols. 1-25 included in vol. 25 (1980).
- Founded in 1906 by Max Dessoir (1867-1947). Dessoir's epistemological interest was in the "essential nature" of art. His phenomenologically trained eye was directed not towards specific individual genres but rather, as a matter of principle, towards all the arts. Dessoir ran the ZEITSCHRIFT FUER AESTHETIK UND ALLGEMEINE KUNSTWISSENSCHAFT with international success until it had to be discontinued in 1942 with the 36th volume because of a "shortage of paper". In 1951, the journal was founded again by Heinrich Lützeler (1902-1988). Currently the only German-language periodical that deals with and discusses questions and problems of a General Theory of the Arts. |
