Complete set $ 720.-
Per volume $ 65.-

- When the quarterly journal SOUTHERN CULTURES was taken over last year by the University of North Carolina (UNC) Press, the new publisher was ready to reach out to an audience outside academe's hallowed halls with columns on food, music, sports and language and a reader-friendly redesign including the liberal use of archival illustrations. But these changes do not mean that the editorial board has lowered its standards. Although it was initially published by Duke University Press, the move to UNC could be considered a homecoming, since the editors are professors in history and sociology there and the magazine is produced under the auspices of UNC's burgeoning Center for the Study of the American South (Library Journal).

Chesnutt, Thomas Wolfe's Of Time and the River, William Styron's uncollected essays, Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man, and Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian. The literature of southern writers makes up an important part of American literature (Katz).
