- The RECORDS OF THE SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC HISTORY OF ENGLAND AND WALES includes ministers' accounts, terriers (inventories of landholdings of persons or corporations), revenue rolls, and agricultural, industrial and commercial documents of all kinds. Taking the central place, though, are the cartularies of religious houses. Apart from their historical and linguistic importance, the cartularies provide new information about the development of the Common Law before the appearance of the great thirteenth-century surveys.
