In terms of its readability and intellectual level, it is a scholarly publication of quality oriented toward the historian and the educated layperson. The content of each volume, in reference to time and place, is eclectic, with a certain emphasis on social history. Book reviews do not appear regularly, but there are occasional lengthy review articles (Katz).
