- STUDIES IN SHORT FICTION publishes critical and interpretive essays on short fiction of all time periods including the present. "Short fiction," as defined by the journal, includes short stories, novellas, tales, parables, narrative poems, and oral folk narratives. The majority of the contributions focus on British and American authors, but short-fiction writers from other countries are included as well, especially if they write in English or if their works have been translated into English. The journal also publishes a book-review section and a useful annual index to short fiction in anthologies and annual bibliography of short-story explication (Katz).
