- Although American history before 1815 is the chief focus of this well-established and respected quarterly, the editors also encourage contributions in the areas of literature, ethnohistory, and the arts. Three or four articles normally appear in each issue of WILLIAM AND MARY QUARTERLY. "African and American Atlantic World" is the title of a special issue. This offers five articles including "Reading the Runaways" and "West Africa in the Atlantic Community." "Notes and Documents" follows, and is a regular feature. The latter might be a historiographical article or, more likely, a text and critical analysis of a historical document (Katz).
