- As a pendant to his journal FRANKREICH, which was devoted to the events of the French Revolution, Johann Friedrich Reichardt's DEUTSCHLAND became a German revolutionary journal. Reichardt exercised much restraint, howver, and the journal consequently turned more to the study of literature. The polemical nature of the work remained intact, though, once the young Friedrich Schlegel became a regular contributor.
