- Due to its preponderance of serialized novels and essays, Bertram's Litteratur- und Theater-Zeitung depended largely on a subscription public for its sale. In 1785 he changed the title to EPHEMERIDEN DER LITTERATUR UND DES THEATERS, and made each issue more autonomous. After Bertram's appointment as secretary in the new Berlin Nationaltheater, the EPHEMERIDEN (appearing twice a year) became heavily influenced by the theater.
