- After the deaths of Forster and Knigge, Rebmann ranked as the best known authority on democracy among the German revolutionaries. Under his direction, DIE SCHILDWACHE concerned itself chiefly with events in Paris. Schütz, as editor, reserved his attacks for conditions in Germany. It is this divided editorship that gives the journal its special interest.
