Rickards, counsel to the speaker of the House of Commons, was the named editor for volumes 99-109. Volumes 25 thru 109, covering 1761-1869, were each published in the year(s) following the parliamentary session(s) the statutes of which they cover. There is one additional index volume prepared by Pickering (Vol. 38 of the set), which covers volumes 25 thru 37, the 1st to 32nd regnal years of George III.

- Parliament forbade the reporting of its debates until 1771, when it yielded to protests by London newspaper publishers. In 1803 William Cobbett began publishing the PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES, until, in 1812, he sold his interest to his printer, T.C. Hansard. Throughout the nineteenth century, HANSARD'S PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES were neither verbatim nor official, but rather a collection of newspaper and other reports, embodying corrections by the speakers. The DEBATES are essential to a complete understanding of nineteenth-century Britain.

- Writs and orders under the Great Seal addressed by the Sovereign to individuals were folded or closed up and, therefore, known as "letters close". Until Tudor times the CLOSE ROLLS contain royal instructions for the performance of various acts, including the observance of treaties, the levying of subsides, and the repair of buildings. Private deeds enrolled for safe custody on the back of the Close Rolls were especially numerous from 1382, and from 1532 such deeds form the entire content of the Roll.

- The WESTMINSTER REVIEW was founded in 1824 by Jeremy Bentham and its first editor was John Browning. In 1851 it was taken over and edited by John Chapman, with George Eliot as assistant editor from 1851-1853. Through his disciples James Mill, John Stuart Mill, Ricardo, Sir Samuel Romilly, Henry Brougham, and John Browning, Bentham exerted a great and beneficial influence on the development of English society and its institutions throughout the nineteenth century. The Westminster Review published many "firsts" of some of Britain's greatest Radical and Liberal writers and the high quality of its contributors make this an important source for the deep study of free thought and economic ideals of the last century.
