- In all Europe (and most probably in the world) it is the oldest existing periodical for the study of antiquity. The term "philology" is used in the comprehensive sense of scholarly involvement with Greek and Roman culture. In addition to the main emphasis on literary studies, articles are offered on topics of history, religion, and the history of philosophy. Though German is the main language, many contributions come from English-speaking countries (and articles are also published in Italian and French).
