Dr. Ernst Schäfer (1872 - 1946) spent many hours compiling these indexes in the Archivo de Indias (Sevilla), in Simancas (Valladolid), in the Biblioteca Nacional and in the Real Academia de la Historia.
The indexes are crucial for effective use of the "Colección de documentos inéditos, relativos al descubrimiento, conquista y colonización de las posesiones españolas en América y Oceanía" (CODOIN).
The first volume contains an Alphabetical Index of People.
The second volume contains a Subject Index and a Chronological Index, in which he gives us a brief summary of each document and where it came from. |
