- CONTEMPORARY POETRY AND PROSE was an important avant-garde publication, for it gave space to many of the important writers who began in one little magazine or another in the twenties and early thirties. The magazine's emphasis was frequently upon the surrealists and latter-day extensions of their theories and practices. Among the contributors were David Gascoyne, e.e. cummings, Dylan Thomas, Pablo Picasso, Federico Garcia Lorca, Andrè Breton, Arthur Rimbaud and Tristan Tzara.
