- The STATUTES AT LARGE were begun both as a retrospective and also a current publishing project in 1762, under the editorship of Danby Pickering, from whom the entire series acquired its popular name. Pickering himself was responsible for volumes 1 thru 46, which were published between 1762 and 1807. Volumes 47 thru 98 have no named editor. George K. Rickards, counsel to the speaker of the House of Commons, was the named editor for volumes 99-109. Volumes 1-24, covering 1225-1761 and published between 1762 and 1769, comprise the retrospective portion of the series, with Vol. 24 being an index for those years. Volumes 25 thru 109, covering 1761-1869, were each published in the year(s) following the parliamentary session(s) the statutes of which they cover. There is one additional index volume prepared by Pickering (Vol. 38 of the set), which covers volumes 25 thru 37, the 1st to 32nd regnal years of George III.
