- Billing itself as the first scholarly publication in robotics, INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF ROBOTICS RESEARCH is one of the four most-cited titles in the field. The articles are relatively lengthy (averaging 20 pages each), and the treatment is highly mathematical. Although there is some attention paid to larger systems, most papers consider specific aspects of robot function, such as light-sensing flexing of manipulators, force sensing, or motion variables. Experimentation is almost always on laboratory scale equipment, although the intent is application to actual production environments (Katz).
