- The JOURNAL OF SPECULATIVE PHILOSOPHY revives the nineteenth-century publication of the same title, the first in the United States devoted primarily to philosophy and the one in which Peirce, James, Dewey, and other giants published some of their early essays. The emphasis here is on systematic and interpretive essays dealing with basic philosophical questions. The stated goal of the editors is to promote a constructive interaction between continental and American philosophy, rather than to publish scholarly articles about philosophical movements or historical figures. In addition, the journal occasionally publishes articles on art, literature, and religion that are not strictly or narrowly philosophical in their orientation (Katz).
