- MODERN ASIAN STUDIES is a British publication covering the history, geography, politics, sociology, literature, economics, and social anthropology of Asia. Authors focus on the impact of Europe and the "modernization" of Asia, and articles uphold the highest standards of scholarship and literary skill. It is similar in focus and approach to the American journal Asian Survey, but with a greater emphasis on areas of colonial British influence. There are frequently review articles covering such topics as recent studies of modern Chinese history, and occasionally an entire issue will be devoted to a single topic, such as war in modern China (Katz).
